Football Atlas

Privacy Policy

Effective date: June 16, 2026

Football Atlas is an unofficial match-day companion for football fans. Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any international football federation, host committee, or commercial sponsor.

The short version: Football Atlas is built to work without knowing who you are. You don't create an account, you don't give us your name or email, and the app never tracks your GPS location. We collect the minimum needed to run the features and keep them free of spam and abuse — and almost all of it is anonymous.

1. Who this applies to

This policy covers the Football Atlas mobile app and the website at footballatlas.app. Football Atlas is an independent, unofficial match-day companion for football fans. By using the app or site, you agree to this policy.

2. Information we collect

Things we deliberately do not collect: we don't ask for your name, email, phone number, date of birth, or any login. There is no sign-up to use the app. We do not collect GPS or precise device location — the heat map is built only from people voluntarily tapping "check in," never from background location.

To run the service, we process: an anonymous device ID (a random identifier generated on your device, used only for fair-use limits and abuse prevention; reinstalling creates a new one); voluntary check-ins (an anonymous check-in + timestamp, short-lived); Fan Room activity (your anonymous message + chosen country flag); reports (anonymous, for community moderation); anonymous usage analytics (PostHog, no personal data); and standard technical data(e.g. a temporary IP address to deliver content securely and rate-limit). If you join our email waitlist on this website, we store the email you submit (via Kit) solely to notify you about launch — that's the only place we hold an email, and only if you opt in.

3. How we use information

To provide the core features (city guides, transit info, the check-in heat map, Fan Rooms); to keep the service fair and safe (rate limiting, spam prevention, community moderation); and to improve the app using anonymous, aggregated trends. We do not sell your data, run third-party ad trackers, or build advertising profiles.

4. Who we share information with

Only the infrastructure providers that operate the service on our behalf, as needed: Vercel (app hosting), Cloudflare (website hosting/delivery), Upstash (temporary check-in/density storage), PostHog(anonymous analytics), and Kit (email waitlist, if you opt in). We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect users and the service.

5. How long we keep it

Check-in/density signals are ephemeral and expire automatically (minutes to hours). Fan Room messages are retained to keep conversations readable and support moderation. Reports are kept briefly (up to ~30 days). Analytics follow our provider's standard retention. Waitlist emails are kept until launch or until you unsubscribe.

6. Your choices and rights

Reset your anonymous ID anytime by reinstalling or using "Clear local data" in Settings. Opt out of analytics where the app offers the toggle. Unsubscribe from the waitlist via the link in any email. Request access or deletion by emailing us — given the anonymous design, there's usually nothing tied to your name. Depending on where you live, you may have rights under the GDPR or CCPA; we honor them for any personal data we actually hold.

7. Children

Football Atlas is a general-audience app and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures — encryption in transit (HTTPS) and reputable cloud providers — and keep the data we hold minimal precisely to reduce risk.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves; we'll revise the effective date above and reflect material changes on this page.
